In the last post you would have not have any idea on how big and crazy the shawl really is. I took some pictures of the finished object even though that day was horrible. Now the shawl is on its way to my lovely mum who I am pretty sure will wear it everyday of winter!

Fiber lover portait #4

Hello everyone ! It has been a long time, life caught me and squeezed me hard, I recovered and now here I am. today, I want to present you a new, noteworthy, talented knitter who I encounter on the famous ravelry, Clare Divine aka Knitsforklipskaap. Clare is a bright lady with a handful of beautiful patterns under her sleeve. She lives her passion of the thread 100% and you can read her wise words and see her beautiful blog here. I was lucky to snatch a bit of her time with my little questionnaire and here is a mini trip into the knitted life of Clare. I hope you will enjoy the voyage as much as I did. Continue reading

Republic of Wool + Curious Handmade = Grasshopper

A beautiful Grasshopper in fingering weight from Republic of wool, beautiful greens, beautiful texture and a delight to knit with. Another pebble beach shawl knitted, using another hand dyed yarn, this shawl has to be added to my collection of hand dyed pebble. I am traveling around the world  through the making of the pebble shawl following a hand dyed trail. I went to the UK with the phoenix pebble made of Countess Ablaze goodness, I went to Australia with sweet pebble made of Skeinyarn and now I went to the USA with Republic of Wool and all this travel was through seeing and knitting the colours of a thread of yarn. I guess that was a cheap way of travelling :)

A loop coffee caramel

I am back to normality, back to Australia, back in our house, back to our comfort zone. The heat in Australia is not as inspiring as the colder weather of New Zealand. It is very hard to knit when 36 degrees is knocking on your windows and that the wind has decided to go on holiday somewhere else. As I am very addicted, the heat did not stop me to cast on and finish some projects :) and finally to block the little Loop caramel coffee.

Bonjour 2015

2014 is gone and to be honest I am glad it is :0) I am ready for a new year of learning, creating and sharing. The reality is that we live but one day we go and the “we go” is not as great as we live. So instead of being stuck in blackness and negativity, it is better to make life a fun ride ! right?! follow the thread and knit the happiness up !

Exploration station with Westknits

I have knitted a few westknits designs now the Lumpy space, Parachutey, Syncopation addiction and now I have finished my exploration station. I learned a lot during this KAL and more importantly I have fallen in love with Brioche knitting ! It is the best canvas stitch for beautiful yarn!

Madelinetosh fingering weight was used and my choice of colours was not my habitual one. I did not follow my habit and left my comfy black for neon peach ! as you can imagine, it was a pretty significant change ! I felt almost uncomfortable at first …. like I was lying to myself … very strange but as the shawl grew, the colours were also growing on me and my feeling changed. As the lovely ravelerier Theopup said “it reminds me of raspberry ripple ice cream with a hint of tutti frutti. Lovely!”  I had to use her words as it described perfectly the sweetness of the shawl in these colours!

You have to know that Neon peach is bright, so bright that I am pretty sure it will glow under dark light ! I think that it is brighter than edison bulb!  All the colours I chose were not solid colours and I think that non-solid colours give another dimension to a knitted garment.

I should stop babbling away and let the pictures speaking for themselves don’t you think ?!

Mysterious Westknits KAL + Madelinetosh = RAD

It is very mysterious so mysterious that you should not read any further if you want to knit exploration station from westknits and do not want to see what is behind clue 1 and 2 .

I chose madelinetosh merino tosh light for this KAL with 4 fingering weigh yarns, holi festival, farmhouse white, neon peach and cardinal. I can almost write a mini quote with the name of the yarns. It will give the soul of my future shawl I guess … :)

———————The neon peach was high up on the tree, it was therefore a perfect start for the holi festival  in the farmhouse white, the cardinal was pleased ———————————

Morrígan free pattern from Hedgehogfibers

Yes I made it ! my non-selfish knitting is cast off, blocked and beautiful! Thanks Hedgehogfibers for this amazing free pattern. Morrígan is a charted shawl with 3 charts: setup, repeat and edging. The pattern called for 4 repeats. I used the beautiful silk/merino lace weight yarn Implode by hedgehogfibers (700m/100g), a needle gauge of 3.75. I changed to wooden needle as the metal needle did not work. It is a very slippery business knitting lace with metal needles.

Warning: if using metal needle when knitting lacy things, it can end up in tears ! so my advise use wooden needles.
